About One Piece

One Piece is the best-selling manga in history, created by Eiichiro Oda and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since July 1997. With over 500 million copies in circulation worldwide across more than 110 volumes, it holds the Guinness World Record for the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation has aired over 1100 episodes since 1999, with the series now in its Final Saga after more than 25 years of continuous publication. One Piece has spawned 15 animated films, numerous video games, light novels, stage plays, and a live-action Netflix adaptation that became one of the platform's most-watched series globally.

The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who gained rubber-like abilities after eating the Gum-Gum Fruit (a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, later revealed to be the Mythical Zoan Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika). Inspired by the pirate Shanks, Luffy sets sail from the East Blue with the dream of finding the legendary treasure One Piece and becoming the King of the Pirates. Along his journey he assembles the Straw Hat Pirates: Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman who fights with three swords and dreams of becoming the world's greatest; Nami, the navigator who maps the entire world; Usopp, the sniper and storyteller who seeks to become a brave warrior of the sea; Sanji, the cook who fights with powerful kicks and searches for the All Blue; Tony Tony Chopper, the reindeer doctor who ate the Human-Human Fruit; Nico Robin, the archaeologist who is the only person alive who can read the ancient Poneglyphs; Franky, the cyborg shipwright who built the crew's ship, the Thousand Sunny; Brook, the living skeleton musician who ate the Revive-Revive Fruit; and Jinbe, the fish-man helmsman and former Warlord of the Sea.

The power system of One Piece is built on three pillars. Devil Fruits are mysterious fruits that grant supernatural abilities at the cost of the user's ability to swim, divided into three types: Paramecia (granting superhuman physical abilities or body modification, like Luffy's rubber body or Law's Op-Op Fruit that creates a surgical operating room), Zoan (allowing transformation into animals, including Ancient Zoan models like dinosaurs and Mythical Zoan models like Marco's Phoenix Fruit or Kaido's Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon), and Logia (the rarest type, allowing the user to transform into and control a natural element, like Crocodile's sand, Enel's lightning, or Akainu's magma). Haki is a spiritual power that exists in every living being but can only be awakened through training: Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) grants a sixth sense of danger and the ability to sense others' presence; Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) creates an invisible armor that can harden the body and bypass Devil Fruit defenses; and Haoshoku Haki (Conqueror's Haki) is the rarest form, possessed by one in a million, allowing the user to overwhelm the will of others. Advanced applications of all three Haki types separate the truly powerful from everyone else in the New World. The third pillar is the diverse fighting styles developed in each sea and island culture, including Fish-Man Karate, Rokushiki (the Six Powers used by CP9), Electro (the Mink tribe's electrical combat), and the sword styles of Wano.

The world of One Piece is one of the most elaborate in fiction. The planet is dominated by a single massive ocean, the Grand Line, which circles the globe and is divided in two by the Red Line continent. Navigation requires a Log Pose, a special compass that locks onto island magnetic fields. The Grand Line is split into Paradise (the first half) and the New World (the second half, where the Four Emperors rule). The political structure is maintained by the World Government, led by the Five Elders (Gorosei) and their hidden sovereign Imu, enforced by the Navy (Marines) led by the Fleet Admiral, with the Seven Warlords of the Sea (recently abolished) serving as government-sanctioned pirates. The Revolutionary Army, led by Luffy's father Monkey D. Dragon, opposes the World Government. The Four Emperors -- currently Shanks, Blackbeard, Luffy, and Buggy -- are the most powerful pirates in the New World, each commanding massive fleets and territories.

The central mysteries of One Piece have driven the narrative for decades: what is the One Piece treasure that Gol D. Roger left on the final island of Laugh Tale? What happened during the Void Century, the 100-year gap in recorded history that the World Government has suppressed? What are the Poneglyphs, the indestructible stone tablets scattered across the world that reveal the true history? What is the Will of D, the inherited will carried by those with the initial D in their name (Luffy, Roger, Dragon, Blackbeard, Law, and others)? And what is the Ancient Weapon system -- Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus -- capable of reshaping the world? These interconnected mysteries form the backbone of the series' endgame, now unfolding in the Final Saga.
